Student Leadership

Student leadership is an important part of life at St Joseph’s. We believe that every child has the capacity to lead, contribute, and make a positive difference within our school community. Our student leadership structures provide meaningful opportunities for students to develop responsibility, confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of service.

Student Council

At the heart of our leadership program is our Student Council. This active and committed group meets regularly with the Assistant Principal to share ideas, raise student perspectives, and explore ways to make our great school even better for everyone. The Student Council is made up of two representatives from each class in Years 2–6, elected by their peers, as well as our four Year 6 Student Leaders who attend all meetings throughout the year. With new councillors selected each semester, every student has the opportunity to participate, ensuring all voices are heard. Guided by the motto “Working together to make our school great!”, the Student Council plays a central role in fostering collaboration and student engagement.

Student Leadership Team

Our Student Leadership Team, comprising School Captains, Vice Captains, and Year 6 Student Leaders, represent St Joseph’s at school and community events, lead assemblies, and support the initiatives of the Student Council. They play a key role in organising and promoting whole-school activities—including our much-loved “Joey’s Got Talent” showcase, Anti-Bullying Week initiatives, and student-led PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) promotions.

House Captains

We also proudly appoint House Captains for our Red, Green, Blue, and Gold Houses. These leaders support the running of sporting events and carnivals, encourage team spirit, and help promote PB4L expectations across the school.

Together, these leadership opportunities help students grow as confident, respectful, and compassionate leaders who contribute to the life of our school with pride and purpose.
