PB4L Flowchart

At St Joseph’s, our PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) Response Strategies Flowchart guides staff in responding to student behaviour in a calm, consistent, and supportive way. The flowchart ensures that all teachers follow the same clear steps when managing behaviour, helping students understand expectations and learn from their choices.

The process begins with observing the behaviour and working with the student to identify what happened. Staff then use the flowchart to determine whether the behaviour is minor or major, ensuring an appropriate and proportionate response.

For minor behaviours, teachers use strategies such as reminding, redirecting, reteaching expectations, and applying relevant classroom consequences. These incidents are managed within the classroom or playground and recorded when needed to monitor patterns.

For major behaviours, staff follow a structured response that involves executive support, immediate safety considerations, and communication with families. Consequences align with our school’s Behaviour and Pastoral Care Policy.

Across all situations, our approach remains calm, consistent, brief, immediate, respectful, and private, supporting students to repair relationships, reflect on their choices, and positively re-engage in learning. The flowchart helps create a predictable and supportive environment where every student knows what is expected and feels safe to learn and grow.
